Victoria Falls Itinerary: How Many Days Do You Need?
September 2026 · 4 min read

Most visits to Victoria Falls run between two and five days. Here's how to think about the time, whether you're passing through on a bigger Africa trip or making the falls your whole holiday.
Two days: the essentials
Day one: the falls themselves. Walk the rainforest paths on the Zimbabwean side (a couple of hours, longer if you linger), then take a sunset cruise on the Zambezi — the classic first evening.
Day two: pick one signature activity. Helicopter or microlight flights over the falls, a guided tour of the Zambian side, or a cultural village visit all fit a half day before an afternoon departure.
Three to four days: add adventure or safari
With a third day, add either an adrenaline activity — white-water rafting in the Batoka Gorge (seasonal), the gorge swing or zipline — or a full-day safari to Chobe National Park in Botswana, about an hour away. Chobe day trips typically combine a morning river cruise with an afternoon game drive and are among the region's most popular excursions.
Five days or more: slow down or extend
Use the extra time for a second safari (Hwange in Zimbabwe), a multi-day canoe trip on the upper Zambezi, or simply another unhurried day in town. Alternatively, cross to Livingstone and see the falls from the Zambian side — the perspective is genuinely different, especially in low-water months.
Practical tips
Stay in Victoria Falls town (Zimbabwe) or Livingstone (Zambia) — activities include hotel pickup from both. Check visa requirements if you plan to cross the bridge; eligible nationalities can use the KAZA UniVisa covering both countries. And book the headline activities ahead in the June-to-October high season.
